Part film and TV studio, part entertainment complex and part amusement park with full-throttle fun at every turn.
As one of the oldest working studios in Hollywood, Universal Studios Hollywood™ gives you every chance to glimpse movie-making in action, but the star attractions are the adrenaline-pumping rides.
Many of the rides are based on favorite family films and television shows from theUniversal Studios® stable. Give gravity the slip and get your bones rattled on the Revenge of the Mummy® roller coaster. Hollywood doesn’t do small and the rides fuse pyrotechnics, state-of-the-art technologies, big budgets and even bigger imaginations.
The heart of the park is the Studio Tour®, a tram ride through one of Hollywood’s most famous back lots. Here, you’ll visit the birthplace of many movie classics, and experience earthquakes, floods, fires and all the special effects that the TV and movie industry can throw at you.
An encounter with Jaws is still a Universal Studios® favorite, but one of the most memorable experiences is a face-to-face confrontation with an even bigger beast. King Kong 360® 3-D is a spectacular and immersive ride created by multiple Academy Award winning writer and director Peter Jackson that pitches you into the middle of a battle between the giant ape and a pack of hungry dinosaurs.
When you’re ready to turn down the “exhilaration” dial, make your way to Universal’s CityWalk® where you’ll find three blocks of entertainment, shopping and dining adjacent to the park.
Universal Studios® opened its doors to paying guests in 1915 when enterprising studio founder Carl Laemmle charged people 25 cents to watch silent movie scenes being filmed. Not surprisingly, it became a popular destination and remains so today, all year round. Get a jump on the lines and turn up before the gates open, or purchase tickets beforehand.Universal Studios® is located 10 miles (16 kilometers) northwest of downtown Los Angeles.
