Milan is 2.5 hours away by rail or 3 hours by car. Many cruises have a stop in Venice’s port. Take the train and bus between most of Veneto’s towns however, a car can be helpful for outdoor excursions, especially in the Dolomites. Venice itself is best explored on foot.
